Walk the Wales Coastal path from Chester to Menai Bridge

The path officially starts somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but you need to set off from Chester in order to get there. So as far as we’re concerned, the start of this route is in the middle of historic Chester.

This first section from Chester to the Menai is one that you may well choose to tackle in a different manner. It starts off along a cycle track, and most of the section as far as Colwyn Bay can be cycled. We’d go as far as saying that it’s better that way! Another alternative, is to run this in sections, though you’d need to be running a fair old distance or be using it as your weekly longer run. I decided to run sections of up to 20 km in the first instance – as my long run. The section from Rhyl onwards is ideal for cycling. It’s a total of xxx km and you can easily cover that in half a day on a bike. This makes the North Wales stretch of the Coastal Path a truly multi-use route.

The only other option is to treat this as an opportunity to get some really long walks in. 40km should be doable for a fit walker on this kind of terrain. If you’re planning on walking the Anglesey Coast straight afterwards, then this makes the perfect warm up!
